College Readiness 101

ACT Lawrence operates a wide array of services and programs through our Financial Capability and Opportunity Center. ACT Lawrence provides workshops in youth jobs and college readiness for college bound youth (ages 14-22). There are seven (7) weekly workshops including two (2) college tours covering topics such as how to be successful in college / financial aid 101 / applying for scholarships / high school to college resume / admissions process and experiential learning. The Arc of Greater Lawrence, Healthy Balance

Young people with intellectual and developmental (I/DD) disabilities face unique personal, social and environmental barriers that may reduce their access to physical fitness activity opportunities. CLASS engages students with I/DD in recreation and healthful activities in after-school programming. Healthy Balance is run in collaboration with Merrimack College faculty and student volunteers. Bridging the Opportunity Gap

The Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board is composed of knowledgeable and influential business and community leaders who are appointed by the Mayor of Lawrence on behalf of the fifteen communities that make up the region. Engineering Outreach Program at MIT

Saturday Engineering Enrichment and Discovery (SEED) Academy is a five and a half year academic enrichment and career exploration program for public school students from Boston, Cambridge and Lawrence, Massachusetts who have a strong academic record and interest in science and engineering.

Each SEED Academy module focuses on a different technical discipline – from mechanical engineering to robotics to biological engineering. Through a hands-on instructional approach, students increase their mastery of academic subjects, strengthen their understanding of the practical application of math and science concepts, discover new academic and professional opportunities, and gain exposure to a college environment.

Residential Education & Job Training Program

Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible young people at least 16 years of age that qualify as low income, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life. Upward Bound Math and Science Program

Upward Bound welcomes 50 students from the Lawrence high school system to live at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham for six weeks of intensive study/college prep in the summer. A faculty comprised mainly of Nobles teachers empowers students seeking careers in math or science. The program is the product of a partnership with the University of Massachusetts Boston.
